The above represents what can be seen in a pigeon eye. Some other eyes also show "speed lines" which traverse the "circle of correlation" radially and not
circumferentially like the "distance lines". Other eyes may also show a "single tube iris" where the iris appears to be traversed by but a single blood vessel
rather than showing the hills and valleys created by many blood vessels which appear to form lumps.
One can clearly see how the What is the significance of it? Are these variations related to how well a racing pigeon flies or breeds as some claim or are they merely differences among individuals - differences like the color of their feathers, the shape of their heads, eye ceres or wattles, to mention just a few? |

It is indeed remarkable how large the pigeon eyes are compared to the rest of the head and this is an indication how important sight must be to the survival of these birds. One moment of inattention and the pigeon becomes a meal for a predator of which there are so many in nature. Let us then have a better look at the structure of this eye: |

Let us have a look at the "clusters" in both of these images, taken just seconds apart from the same bird. Besides their rapid "movement" please
note that the "cluster" on the left is much larger than the "cluster" on the right. A structure cannot grow and
shrink within a second to such an extend but this observation is consistent with the reflection of light from the
pecten which will:

Thanx Karl for the effort put into explaining the parts of the eye, which some people believe to be 'signs' showing how brilliant their breeders/racers are (while in fact their imagination is 'brilliant') |
| Sunday January 30, 2005 Robert Lynch Tifton, USA 207.69.140.20 | Excellent interactive explanation of the various facets of eyesign in pigeons. I'm not sure I know what they mean with regards to selecting breeders of race birds, but it is a facinating subject. Regardless,I like to see in a wide circle of correlation, depth of color in the iris, and a pupil that constricts to a pin point. Thanks Dr. Karl for your excellent work and website. |

| Wednesday September 27, 2006 MYRON S KULIK LAND O'LAKES, FLORIDA ZIP 34638 152.163.101.8 | JOB WELL DONE KARL, ON THE EXPLANATIONS AS USED MOST IN NORTH AMERICA. THOSE COMMENTS POSTED AS MADE BY OTHERS FROM FOREIGN COUNTRIES ARE GIVEN INCORRECTLY TO OUR LEARNING PROCESS ABOUT THE EYE, & ALSO OMITS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT CIRCLES OR SAYS THAT IT IS OF NO VALUE. WHICH IS A BIG MISTAKE. FOR THOSE WHO WHICH TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE EYESIGN THEY SHOULD USE THIS PARTICULAR PAGE TO DO SO. IT IS BY FAR THE MOST CORRECT TO DATE, BUT, HAS MANY THINGS WHICH NEED TO BE ADDED FOR FURTHER LEARNING AND TO MAKE IT A MORE PRECISE AND ACCURATE PAGE. I HOPE THAT ONE DAY THIS WILL TAKE PLACE. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK WITH THIS TO FULLFIL AND EDUCATE THE MASSES. 9/27/06 |

| Tuesday July 21, 2009 Seelan Abboo Johannesburg - South Africa, Gauteng 196.21.50.1 | This circle of adaptation was always referred to as "Cilliary Muscles" by all the "know everything" Eyesign specialists like Bob Flemming of the USA. I HAD RECOGNIZED AND USED THIS CIRCLE INSIDE THE PUPIL TO PICK OUT BREEDING STOCK AND GOOD RACER. I EVEN WENT SO FAR AS TO PICK OUT THE BEST PRODUCERS IN MANY LOFTS FROM AS FAR BACK AS THE 70'S /80'S. I EVEN PRESENTED DIAGRAMS, AND MADE REFERENCE TO THIS ON DISCUSSION WEB SITES FOR ALL TO LEARN HOW TO GET GOOD STOCK BIRDS FROM THE VERY BEGINING. THERE ARE A LOT OF FANCIERS IN SOUTH AFRICA THAT KNEW WHAT TO LOOK FOR INSIDE THE PUPIL OF A PIGEONS EYE AND I MUST SAY MANY OF THEM WANTED TO KEEP THIS A SECREAT AND DID NOT WANT TO IMPART THIS KNOWLEDGE TO THE NEW GENERATION OF RACING FANCIERS. THEY WERE SCARED TO GET BEATEN IN THEIR OWN GAME AND DID NOT HAVE THE B?LL? TO FACE GOOD COMPETITION. I AM SO GLAD THAT YOU MANAGED TO CAPTURE THIS ON CAMERA AND ILLUSTRATE BY MEANS OF DIAGRAM AND PHOTOS. NOW COME ON ALL OF YOU THAT BREED RACING PIGEONS TAKE NOTE AND GO FOR IT. IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE THAT HAS PIGEONS THAT BREED MULTI-WINNERS GO AND HAVE A LOOK AT THE PIGEONS AND LOOK INSIDE THE PUPIL OF SUCH PIGEONS AND YOU WILL KNOW HOW TO LOOK FOR BETTER BREEDING PIGEONS IN FUTURE. ITS NOT A SECREAT ANYMORE!!!!! IT HAS BEEN DISPLAYED FOR ALL TO SEE. |

, | I can only share my experience. |
, | I am very fortunate to have some cocks and hens with an enormous folding circle inside the pupil (star type, 360degrees and 3mm wide), also from that same family some with a very wide circle and just part of the circle with the folds or no folds at all but very wide circle. My personal experience is that my best racers comes from parents that at least one of them has folds in that circle it doesn’t matter if it’s just a portion of the circle. Two plain and narrow circles don’t produce good pigeons, at least in my loft. Yes, when the eye is seen with a magnifying of at least 15x and if the eye is moved away from the sun light, it is clear how the eye unfolds or folds that circle…I am sure we’d all seen pigeons with a plain narrow circle that will reduce or expand the pupil when they are facing the sun light but they don’t have the folds. I try to breed from pairs that at least one of them has the folding on the circle or part of it, also I try to couple pigeons with circles that they have the folding area in different places, lying and standing, etc. If only one bird has a folding circle or part of it, and I don’t have the right match for it, I try to put it with a pigeon with a plain circle but as wide as I can. My experience is that from two birds with narrow plain circle their descendants are lost sooner or later, some of them on top of the loft, so I don’t breed that way anymore, nevertheless the parents did very well on the road/racing and they came from pairs described above. |
| Monday August 24, 2015 Fidencio Nino Busot, Mutxamiel, Alicnate | That is my humble experience; I am not a top notch fancier or the champion of the Scottish federation and I have not inspected thousands of winner pigeons. I am still learning and the competition here is really tough, the environment and the weather is the North Sea weather. The birds won’t race only with their eyes, they have to have, like any athlete, proper training, proper rest, proper food, experience!!!! (no young bird will go to Barcelona), health and motivation. |
