Alberta Classic Eye Sign Page (July 2001)

Some interest in eye sign was expressed in the Racing Pigeon Discussion Forum. It appears that some of our colleagues can successfully pick the best birds out of a basket and may therefore be gifted with some special talent. My question and the question of many skeptics is whether accomplished eye sign enthusiasts use only the bird's eye sign to judge the bird's value for racing or breeding or whether other cues may be used. To eliminate any other possible cues, only pictures of the birds' eyes are supplied and it is my hope that many eye sign enthusiasts will try their hand at the following game:
Below you will find thumbnails of 40 eyes chosen at random from the 2001 Alberta Classic entries. (Clicking on any thumbnail will enlarge it for you)

All images were taken under identical conditions and received identical processing! Quite unlike the February 2001 game, these birds will be treated in an identical fashion and flown from the same loft.
The birds represented by these 40 eyes will place somewhere in the final results. It will be your challenge, should you accept it, to select the top 20 birds in this group of 40.
Please write down your selection on a piece of paper and then go to the next page where you can enter your selection.

You would be expected to be correct in 50% by chance alone. Anything better than 60% would be significant and would show that you can use eye pictures to select for young bird flying ability.

eye numbers:1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 17, 20, 21, 22, 32, 33, 34, 39, 40. But overall I would not count any of the eyes out of the running!

eye numbers:15, 19, 27, 22, 36, 9, 1, 38, 40, 21, 31, 2, 30, 7, 20, 29, 32, 18, 5, 10 would be my selections... note that the right eye, not left I've found to be more reliable for racing sign. These appear to be left eyes. Note also that a top racer may or may not exhibit breeding sign.

eye numbers:In descending order 27,21,40,36,38,9,1,15,23,19,34,39,32,29 31,18,6,20,5,10...27 will win it all by 38 minutes.with 21,40 and 36 on the second drop,Number 38 will come in 4th but sit on loft for 20 minutes.Dropping to 12th place.Could go on,But don't want to brag on my ability as an eyesign specialist.

I'll put down the 11 that interested me. I don't like grading with the bird not in hand (you can miss a lot) though but will stick my neck out and try... Favorites are 29, 25 & 7, and I like 22, and 15 almost as well. Additionly, 2,12,14,24,31 & 40.
